How many times in your life do you think you should go to a salon to get your hair cut or styled? Question: Men and women spend thousands of dollars every year at salons and care about their hair. Yet, most report that they are less than satisfied with the results. When you read some of the salon reviews out there you will find people who look like their cut / color / perm but are very dissatisfied with the service. Some describe salons with arrogant, rude or uncomfortable hairdressers and staff. Why is E Salon different in this regard? How do you handle customer complaints?

Emiliano: First of all, the hairdressers are a reflection of their leaders. You do not have rude or arrogant team members – you have rude and arrogant owners. Hairdressers globally, actually humanity globally wakes up every morning and wants to give their best. Then they come to work and are rude just because they are not appreciated or lack self-worth. It is every leader's duty to devote himself to his team and to inspire their team to cooperate in a spirit of harmony.

The only reason we succeed is that I devote myself to my team. I promised a long time ago that when one of my team members leaves, they will leave a better person and a better hairdresser. It is easy to blame our team members for making mistakes and not being good enough. But I can assure that if we all, including the OWNER, realized that the person looking back at us in the mirror was responsible for the condition of our life, then this industry, let alone this world, would be a bigger place.

I train my people to see themselves as really great people, and by doing so they see greatness in everyone else. I promise to give them an extra life and that's what I'm aiming for. My team members are the nicest and most remarkable I know.

At E Salon we treat Man, not hair. We encourage and welcome any feedback. Complaints are an opportunity to show the world what kind of person you are. Many hairdressers take a complaint as a personal attack on them. As a leader, it is our responsibility to educate our people properly and to care for them and their spirit.

I'm sorry; There are no rude and arrogant hairdressers — just incapacitated leaders. Always look at man and give your best in the evey moment in every situation. What you give is what you get — it's so simple.

Question: When are you the first to meet a client who wants a new hairstyle, what is your working method?

Emiliano: The first thing I do is ask many questions, such as "Why do you want to change your look? What do you not like about your hair?" I try to find as much history as possible, including everything he / she has been unhappy and content with. Next, I like to feel the hair to determine its thickness and structure. Then I look for some unusual growth patterns. Finally and most importantly, I look at the face shape, leg structure and the client's overall style. I focus on fitness and I try to reinforce the strengths they can have, ie eyes, lips cheekbones etc. Examples of pictures of hair styles that customers think are also very useful for letting me know what my customers like.

Question: How much is it like a salon owner to keep up to date with today's hair and fashion trends?

Emiliano: It is imperative that we keep ourselves updated on what happens in the hairdresser's world. Although it is more important to know who you are in relation to fashion. In today's world, every fashion designer and hairdresser does his own thing. We have to find what we identify when it comes to fashion, and with the first inspiration it makes it develop into something that is unique to us.

It is so important to be a leader who is not a follower and to be true to yourself. In the state of truth you will be able to use a universal source of what is fashion anyway. It is a purely surreal experience when you come up with an original idea and realize that others have had the same idea, very cool.

Question: Many hairdressers strive to please and give their customers the haircut they want. For example — a client takes a photo of a hairstyle that he / she really likes and wants to get the same look. Have you ever told a customer that — NO that hair style or color doesn't work for you?

Emiliano: Absolutely! If I feel a hair style does not fit a client, I will not hesitate to let him / her know how I feel. That's why my customers pay me $ 110 a cut. That being said, I must also contradict myself by saying that hair is about the person wearing it, not the hairdresser.

By knowing who you are and believing in yourself, you attract customers who like what you do. Therefore, you will very rarely have a client in your chair who doesn't like what you do.

Question: Which salon products do you use and how do they import into creating useful hair styles?

Emiliano: We use Oreal styling products. My favorites are; Gloss Wax, Liss Control and Pure Gloss Spray in the Techni.art series, Smoothing Serum in the Texturline series with Artic (L & O; Oreal) and Kiwi Blow serum in the Kiwi series.

Without products, I don't think we could really produce the results we're looking for.

Question: It's one thing to get out of the salon that looks amazing. It is completely different to create the look on your own at home. Do you offer styling advice and training for your clients?

Emiliano: I offer the right advice on which products to use and how to use them to achieve results.

Question: What can we expect for Fall 2004 hairstyles? What are the popular colors, lengths, styles?

Emiliano: From me you can expect short crowns with longer lengths, creating seamless layers and transition from short to long. I still work with asymmetry and disconnected lengths. Fringes are still very hot. I love something Rock Chic looks. I try to make my models and clients like rock stars.

Colors are more a technology thing rather than actual colors, but I work a lot with mahogany and nut brown. The highlights are deeper but they look through the hair, not at the top of the hair. I have been working on this technology for a couple of years, just varying the location of color. Right now we are working with great contrast in color.

Question: Where do hairstyle trends start anyway?

Emiliano: I think hair trends do not begin, they develop. They definitely start by the hairdresser instead of the customer. For example, let's look at the last season. The hair trends have a very thirties and eighties influence. Now it definitely did not begin later, though it developed from that period and was adapted to today.

I will try to start my own trends. Currently I work with my GARAGE collection in the salon and my L 'Oreal tour. The collection has extremely short crowns, varying lengths, with asymmetry and disconnection. Trends are inspired by something. They can be inspired by a movie, a song, a painting — with inspiration everything goes. You have to trust your instincts. Fashion is what you love. LOVE IS FASHION

Question: At a global level do you see a trend on how new hairstyle models develop?

Emiliano: Personally, the entertainment industry inspires me. I think Hollywood has a great influence on setting trends. European hairdressers, especially English, are great translators of this. Taking the mantle as trend sets, you definitely need to earn it.

I know that many hairdressers look at fashion and the designer's new collections for inspiration. You know that everything goes and it usually begins by a child on a street corner who has cut his own hair and it has been exposed to some top stylist, designer or even director.

Fashion is what you do and who you are in context with that way.

Question: What are some of the current hair concerns that your customers experience and what types of treatments do you offer?

Emiliano: In Australia, hair is very good right now when we are in the winter. If anything, the hair is a bit dehydrated. We offer the complete range of effect dose treatments from Oreal. They are quick and easy treatments and make such an immediate change in hair. My favorite here is the Shine Blonde treatment which is a toner as well as a treatment. The result is amazing!

Question: Do you have hard and fast hair care advice that applies to everyone?

Emiliano: Use very little conditioner. Apply it first in the middle and lengths, comb it through the rest of the hair. When applying mousse, apply it slowly and with a comb, a little after a little while. Always finish with a gloss spray for shine.

Question: There is a study that says one of two women is dying hair. Many women do it themselves. What kind of color products do you use and why would you recomment that women go to the E Salon for color treatment?

Emiliano: We exclusively use Oreal Professional products. We recommend that customers come to us for color because we are trained professionals. COLOR FOR HAIR RIGHTS THAT LIKE SKETCH, IT LIVES THE LIFE! The reason I feel that one of two women is dying their hair at home is our own fault. We need to spend more money training our people and taking responsibility ourselves. We tend to blame the companies for making and selling hair dye products in the supermarkets. If we did our jobs correctly, companies would not have to sell in pharmacies and supermarkets.

Question: What are your recommendations for someone looking for a new hairdresser or salon?

Emiliano: Go in for a tumble dryer and take part of all the work that is going on around you. Look for someone who puts love for his or her work. They are a rare breed and when you find them, cherish them. You will notice that they hit their hair, as if you were to pat a cat. They put their heart and soul in their work and they look at what they do and how their hair falls. The best hairdressers will ask about you, not talk about themselves. Always choose the stylist in a salon with the worst haircut. The best hairdressers cut everyone's hair.

I tend to get many customers of people who ask my customers in the street who cut their hair. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions and take pictures. When you find a happy and content-free team of hairdressers, you are sure that your money goes to someone who makes a difference in their customers' lives.
